Canton Tower, nicknamed "Xiaomanyao" (Slim Waist), is located near Chigang Tower in Haizhu District (Yizhou Island), Guangzhou. It stands 125 meters south of the Pearl River and faces Zhujiang New Town, Huacheng Square, and Haixinsha Island across the river. The main body of Canton Tower is 454 meters high, with an antenna mast of 146 meters, reaching a total height of 600 meters. It is China's tallest tower and the second tallest tower in the world, second only to Tokyo Skytree.
Canton Tower was completed in September 2009 and officially opened to the public on September 30, 2010, becoming Guangzhou's new urban landmark and tourism card. Its unique design blends aesthetics with engineering, featuring a slim waist and gradually widening ends, forming the distinctive "Xiaomanyao" shape, which not only embodies feminine curves but also symbolizes Guangzhou's vitality and innovation.
As a large urban infrastructure integrating sightseeing, dining, entertainment, culture, science and education, Canton Tower is not only an observation platform but also a window showcasing Guangzhou's urban development and cultural charm. Visitors can experience various amusement projects at different heights, overlooking Guangzhou's panoramic view from high above, experiencing the unique feeling of "standing at the top of Guangzhou."
Canton Tower is even more charming at night, with its LED lights transforming into various colors and patterns, complementing the night scenery on both sides of the Pearl River, becoming a beautiful scenic line in Guangzhou at night. On important festivals or celebrations, Canton Tower also presents spectacular light shows, attracting countless citizens and tourists to stop and admire.
Canton Tower was designed by Mark Hemel and Barbara Kuit from the Dutch IBA firm. Its design inspiration comes from the mechanical structure of human hip joints and the elegant curves of women. The tower adopts a single shape, wrapped by an upward-rotating elliptical steel shell. The steel structure grid gradually narrows from the wide bottom to the waist, then expands upward, forming the distinctive "Xiaomanyao" shape.
This design not only has visual impact but also effectively resists strong wind loads, meeting the building safety requirements in Guangzhou's typhoon-prone area. The grid structure of the tower reduces its own weight while creating a transparent visual effect, allowing visitors to feel the building's lightness and strength from different angles.
The world's highest horizontal Ferris wheel, composed of 16 "crystal" observation capsules, rotating 360 degrees around the edge of the tower. Each capsule can accommodate 6-8 people, rotating once every 20 minutes, allowing visitors to have a panoramic view of Guangzhou's urban landscape.
The world's highest vertical drop amusement program, divided into "seated" and "standing" experience modes. Visitors will experience the thrill of free fall at high altitude, falling rapidly from 485 meters to 455 meters, with a speed of up to 80 kilometers per hour.
An indoor observation floor located at 428 meters high, equipped with fully transparent glass observation windows, offering a 360-degree panoramic view of Guangzhou. It is equipped with professional telescopes and urban landscape introductions to help visitors better understand Guangzhou's urban layout.
